Dr. Jennifer Firepine, MD
Cybin Study Team
Dr. Jennifer Firepine is a Board-Certified Addiction Medicine Physician with a deep commitment to understanding and addressing the root causes of dis-ease. Her approach integrates medical expertise with inquiry-based exploration, seeing each patient as a whole person navigating the effects of trauma, disconnection, and societal conditioning.
She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1997, followed by a transitional internship at Highland General Hospital and a Family Medicine residency at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. She spent many years in primary care, where she helped establish a young adult clinic providing comprehensive care within a large healthcare system. In 2011, she became Board Certified in Addiction Medicine, a field where she has since devoted her practice.
She recently joined Open Mind Therapeutics, where she contributed to a clinical trial investigating 5-MeO-DMT for treatment-resistant depression and currently serves as a clinical rater in a trial of a novel psilocybin-like compound for major depressive disorder.
In addition to her medical work, she completed the year-long Professional Compassionate Inquiry Training with Dr. Gabor Maté in 2020 and, in 2024, completed the Psychedelic Facilitation Program through the Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics.
